Festival of Lourdes, an event you can’t miss!

For its 50th edition, the International Music Festival of Lourdes will propose a beautiful repertoire from April 7 to 17, 2017. Discover the most famous concerts of sacred music in France.

This year, the focus will be on the three “B”: Basque, Béarn, Bigorre with the presence of musicians from these three territories.

A total of six concerts will take place at the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary and Church of St. Bernadette (Sanctuary), at the Sacré-Coeur church, as well as in the Espace Robert Hossein (downtown) and the abbey church of Saint-Savin.

A little history

Back in 1968, world-renowned flutist and conductor Kurt REDEL and his friend Georges LOUSTALOT created, under the aegis of “The International Society for Arts and Cultural Promotion”, the “Easter Festival of Music and Sacred Art.”

The first concerts were given in the Basilica of the Rosary. Its dimension, acoustics and location at the heart of the Sanctuary contributed to making it the emblematic place of the Festival and the most often used to date.

In the following years, the Festival promoted concerts in other venues such as the church of the Sacred Heart of Lourdes, the Abbey Church of Saint-Savin, and all the way Tarbes (Cathedral) and Lescar (Cathedral).

Through the originality and quality of its programs, the Festival of Lourdes quickly became famous and recognized worldwide.

Today, the Lourdes Festival, also explores other music styles such Italian opera, Basque polyphonies, blues and gospel, and of course classical music, promoting both experienced artists and young talents.
